Why do villains always go on some long and meandering story about some trivial experience?

I mean, just shoot me already.

Are villains our id , expressing our thought processes? In some ways, the villain of any story is our hero, a reflection or echo of our own past traumas.

And…I think this might be a good name for a band…Bad Guys Love Tangents.
